Review - Wordpress Beta Blog App

This is a very cool program. I actually like the layout of the screen better than the web version. My blog is a text only blog at this point, but I tried posted and it was incredibly easy to both post and edit the post. That is what I look for in a blogging tool. This app is smoking cool and it is about time. Maybe Blogger will write one to keep up.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

BBFileScout 1.1

This is a folder based program. It will launch most files to their appropriate location and will even deal with ZIP files. It is small and works with files very well. They have even added a feather to resize pictures.

I haven't done a review in several days and this is a short one, but I did want to let everyone know to check this one out. Definitely worth having around.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. Download

XING Launches Free App For BlackBerry Smartphones

Free download for BlackBerry smartphones at www.xing.com

Xing, has launched a new app for BlackBerry smartphones. The free download will enable more than 7 million business professionals connected over 146 million times worldwide on the platform to access their personal network directly from their mobile devices. The app keeps track of all the user's contacts; phone numbers and email addresses are always available wherever they are, and automatically updated online by the members themselves.

The "What's new in your network" feature lets mobile users stay up-to-date on all the latest developments in their personal network, as well as enabling them to keep others informed by posting status messages of their own. Private messages on XING can also be received and replied to from wherever the user happens to be.
Another highlight of the free XING app is that it synchronizes specific contact data on XING with the users' address book contacts on their BlackBerry smartphone. People on the move can also call or email contacts in their network directly using the XING app.

Up-to-date contact details on the go with XING
"One of the top requests from XING members is for better mobile access to the platform. XING members want easier and faster ways to access and communicate with their XING contacts on the go, wherever they are. The new XING BlackBerry application is a key milestone in enabling increasing numbers of business professionals to use a mobile version of our platform with even greater ease and convenience. We will continue to improve the application based on our members' feedback. On a personal note, I'm thrilled that we have now released in two consecutive weeks applications for two of my favorite addictions: Twitter and BlackBerry," said Jason Goldberg, Chief Product Officer at XING AG.

In addition to English, the XING app supports German, Spanish, Turkish and Italian. The app can be downloaded for free directly to the user's BlackBerry smartphone by simply by visiting the XING mobile website. The appropriate version is automatically detected and then displayed for download on the login page. The XING app requires an Internet-enabled BlackBerry smartphone running OS Version 4.2.1 or later with at least 64 MB internal memory and 170 KB of available memory.

News - Mediafly Beta: Free Podcast Application For BlackBerry

DavidB let me know about Mediafly and I was suitably impressed. The app is in beta for the BlackBerry and lets you select podcasts you wish to listen to on your BlackBerry. These podcasts will automatically stream to your BlackBerry. If they do not have your favorite podcast listed you can add your own custom channel.

Note: Currently the app only supports the Bold, Curve, Pearl, & Storm devices. You also need to set your APN sometimes to get it to work.

You can pick up the app from your BlackBerry OTA at www.mediafly.mobi

News - BlackTrack – Free Solution for Logging Your Emails & Phone Calls

Uberman let us know about this new solution for tracking and logging your emails and phone calls on your BlackBerry. The app stores this information along with any notes you wish to add and emails you a weekly activity report from your device.

Features:
Automatically logs your BlackBerry phone and email activities
Allows you to add notes to your BlackBerry activity log
Automatically sends a daily or weekly log to your email.
Report includes:
Time
Duration
Type of Communication
Activity Details

The app is totally free and is supported by advertising on your weekly report. The solution works pretty well but I am not sure if the logs are also stored on their servers. From their FAQ it looks like they are not but it makes me wonder how the reports are generated if they are not… I sent them an email asking and will hopefully hear back soon since that may be a security risk.

Check it out at www.blacktracklog.com and let me know what you think!

News - TuneWiki Pro And Free Version Released In App World

TuneWiki Pro and Free ad supported versions have been released via BlackBerry App World today. The pro version will set you back $4.95 and does NOT include any ads, but for those who do not want to pay the $4.95 can download the free version can be had as well.

TuneWiki is a media player which scans your music library for content and then allows you to listen to your music using the app, but the real purpose of the application is that it will help you learn the lyrics to your favorite songs as well as since they are displayed across the screen while your music plays. Yes, thats right -- no more making up lyrics for songs anymore. You know you did it, The Rolling Stones Beast of burden will no longer be "everyday a pizzas burnin" ... you will now know the right lyrics.

On top of the lyric integration it also allows you to to share and update what you are listening to with all your Facebook and Twitter friends although, dont blame TuneWiki if you lose some followers for excessively sharing all the bad music you thought no one would ever catch you listening to ;)

News - Viigo 3.1.330 Fixes Performance & Mark Prior Opened Sluggishness

I told you about Viigo's update a bit back that added podcast support and more. The problem is that it introduced a few performance bugs along with a really annoying slowdown every time you wanted to Mark Prior Opened.

Viigo just released version 3.1.330 which fixes these issues. The only problem is that Viigo has now bloated to a 1.2Mb download! That is crazy considering that the Gmail app is just 440kb and Google Maps is 700kb. Not sure why but I hope that size is cut down in future versions. It is good to see that they are working on fixing performance issues along with introducing new features. Keep up the good work Viigo!

You can pickup the latest version OTA and from your desktop at www.berryreview.com/viigo.

News - Zona Snap Free Screen Capture app For your BlackBerry

Felix let us know about Zonasnap a free application that Javiergv developed over at www.zonablackberry.com.ve the application is similar to snapscreen a premium application and captureit a free application for the BlackBerry.  The application may have similarities but in my opinion is a lot better the fact that it offers many more features than the above apps. I have to say upfront that the menus are in Spanish so maybe this is a good time for you to brush up on your Spanish but is actually not that hard to understand if you don't know the language.  I will give you a few tips if you want to try this app out.

The main words used on the menu are : enviar, guardar, Ayuda, Acerca de, cancelar, and the Translation are as follow enviar = Send, guardar = Save, Ayuda = Help, Acerca de = About and Cancelar simply means cancel, bet you knew that one right.

The main features of this application are:
Zonasnap added as an menu item
Send snap of your screen without saving straight from the screen as email, or to Photobucket
or Simply save to SD card under your pictures folder
Can be added as a convenience key
really small in file size about 88kb
When used from the menu it gives you a preview of your screen shot.
OS 4.3+ required
Files saved as jpg format
LED notification and a short vibration to let you know the snap has been taken

To send pictures to photobucket you do need to get a mobile pin that photobucket issues to you and your username it be kind of cool if he could add an option to send to your twitter account. You can download the application OTA or you can follow this link for Desktop Manager Install. Thank you for creating a great application and the best part it is free. Review - Flycast 2.0

These folks have done a great job updating this software. I found the interface to be fresh and fast. It lets you listen to your own music in the player as well. The channel listing seems to be ok, but has room for improvement, but with the other features, this could easily become a competitor to others as your next Internet radio player. It is not likely to take over as your file music player but it is nice to have it in there. All in all this is a solid program and should be looked at.

I give it 3.5 stars out of 5

News - FlyCast 2.0 Beta Released - Internet Radio App With Burst Caching & Twitter

FlyCast let me know that they have released a new beta of their FlyCast
streaming radio app. Back in March they added Shoutcast support which
was awesome and they keep on improving. The beta is free but station
caching may cost more once the app is released into the App World in the
future. Streaming will remain free but the caching option will be a one
time charge.

The latest beta which is very close to final brings:
Storm supports both landscape and portrait mode now.
Station caching is optional, although I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't
use it.
New Twitter interface added. Tweet a song and it will post a link to the
song on your Twitter feed that any user can click on to be taken
directly to that station on FlyCast to hear it.
8900 is supported
Much more stable

The best feature in my opinion is that it lets you cache radio stations
over your cellular connection and Wi-Fi. If you have a Wi-Fi or good 3G
connection it can cache stations at a claimed 10x realtime. This way you
can get hours of radio on your BlackBerry in a few minutes. It also
means you do not need a constant connection to listen.

To try out the burst caching select a station you want to listen to and
select the FlyBack 2 Hours icon. To verify it is working keep an eye out
on the little yellow/green "cache indicator" line at the bottom of the
player fly by. Once it turns green, that part of the stream is
completely cached and you can jump to the next part of the stream. Try
caching an hour (should take about 5-10 minutes with a good connection)
and then stop playback. Go to My Stuff/Recordings and you'll see 1 hour
of that station cached on your device.

NOTE: Make sure to delete any old version before installing this beta

You can download the app OTA at www.flycast.fm/betabby or comment on
their forums at forums.flycast.fm

News - Create simple websites using your BlackBerry email

A new service, elog.com, can use an email from your BlackBerry to create
a website straight from your device. With elog.com, you don't need to
register an account and you can create as many web pages as you want.
All you have to do is send an email to elog.com and your webpage is
created automatically.

elog.com is a simple and non-invasive service. Your website looks
exactly like the email you send and it can serve a variety of purposes.
The email address and the URL are neatly and cleanly tied together. For
example, sending an email to 12329@elog.com is tied to
http://12329.elog.com. By not "getting in the way", it can even be used
to update smaller areas on a larger web page (like updating the
weather/conditions in the upper right part of some larger unchanging web
page).

Currently, the system does not allow for attachments, but the company
has told me that if the BlackBerry community were interested in such a
feature, it would be easy to implement. Is this a feature you would like
to see?

This is an example of the type of website you can currently create. It
took about 10-15 minutes.

News - RadioBee 1.6 Released - SHOUTcast & Icecast Internet Radio, Wi-Fi Support, & Bluetooth Streaming

RadioBee 1.6 Released - SHOUTcast & Icecast Internet Radio, Wi-Fi
Support, & Bluetooth Streaming

RadioBee has been around for quite awhile but originally it did not work
so well on the BlackBerry. They let me know that they just launched
version 1.6 that brings quite a few BlackBerry features to the table so
I thought it was worth a mention. It essentially lets you stream
SHOUTcast internet radio stations to your BlackBerry. While this may not
be as good as Pandora or Slacker there are thousands of SHOUTcast
stations out there. The main downside is that the app costs $9.95
compared to the other free internet radio applications like Pandora,
Slacker, & iHeartRadio.

New features in 1.6:
powered by SHOUTcast
Sound engine built from scratch with no delays
Ability to work on background
WiFi / BES support
Using volume buttons and trackball
support of SHOUTcast stations and Icecast stations
Reliability rating and Playing rating for each station in the database
Bluetooth audio streaming to your car or home audio (BB only)

News - Viigo's New Weather Service

This was the first part of a series on the new Viigo. Check it out.

This is the first in a series of posts covering what's new in the latest
version of Viigo and we thought we'd start with the basics.

Our weather service, which is delivered in partnership with Accuweather,
is one of the most popular services within Viigo. Each day, hundreds of
thousands of people check the weather on Viigo, and we owe them the best
weather experience we can provide.

Earlier versions of Viigo's weather service suffered from a couple of
key issues (1) for cities with few subscribers, collection times were
often long, resulting in the weather being out of date, and (2) for
detailed information, we forced you to open a web page (a slow and
sometimes arduous process).

We've not only improved both of those things, we've actually added some
important features.

Here's a look at the new weather screen for a city (in this example New
York). You'll see live current conditions and a 5 day forecast,
including a summary of the expected conditions.

Clicking on the Current conditions, brings you additional details,
delivered without the need for you to launch an external browser.

For cities within North America, scrolling down further will get you a
live radar image, so you can see what storms might be approaching.

If you want more detailed hour by hour results, just click on the link
provided, and we'll take you to AccuWeather's live mobile optimized Web
Page.

Note: in order to fully take advantage of Weather 2.0, you'll need to
remove your current weather cities and add the new ones, and you'll need
to be running the latest version of Viigo.

Team Viigo
"Sun is shining, the weather is sweet, yeah "

Review - You Version Bible Software for Blackberry

It is extememely hard to believe that this is free software. It contains full versions of almost all popular versions of the Bible. It is easy to read, easy to find passages, and is stacked full of features. It even has a "read it in a year" feature.

The one place if is lacking is that there is no way to book mark or highlight a passage. Add this and it will be over the top great.

I give this software a 4.5 out of 5 stars. Get this one

News - Free BlackBerry file manager BBFileScout goes version 1.0

The creators of BBFIleScout have had a ton of user feedback since the
release of their free file manager for BlackBerry. They have now
released version 1.0 of BBFileScout and there are quite a few major
improvements.

Latest updates:
Options reorganized - on BlackBerry devices it's quite common to
separate the application options into various screens - this makes the
options way more organized and easier to understand.
Path entry fields (Startup Path, Thumbnail Storage Playlist Directory)
show now an additional button that allows you to browse in the file
system to make an appropriate selection (in the past this was only
possible via the menu).

Some of the core features that have been maintained are:
BBFileScout is a file system browser for your BlackBerry (including
hidden files)
Create directories, copy, move, rename, or delete files
Zip files or complete directory structures
Extract Zip archives (incl. structures)
Copy and delete complete directory structures
Open all media files (supported by your BlackBerry)
Register additional file types with other (3rd party) applications (if
supported)

VR+ for Blackberry

Now this is another slick program from the folks at Shape Services. It is a Voice recorder and a very good one. It has some great features that your normal voice recorder does not do however. First of all, it saves files in MP3 format (which I love). As part of the package, they give you internet storage to house your recordings if you choose. From the interface, you can email the file so it makes keeping the files very convienient. Finally, they have a dictation service. You can send the file and they will send the text back to you. Very nice.

All in all, I have not seen a more full featured voice recorder on the market. Being a musician, those types of things tend to catch my attention. This is a need to have program if you do not realize it yet.

I give the software a 4.5 out of 5 stars. Download

OtterBox Impact Case for BlackBerry 8300 - Black

This is my first review of a Blackberry accessory. I must say for a carry around or in pocket accessory, Otterbox did make a good Product. I do wish they found someway to protect your screen however. The extract material on the corners and around the device, provides a great amount of protection everywhere else. This was my first Otterbox product, and after receiving it, I would make the statement "It is pretty good".

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Mobiola xPlayer Live Radio and Podcast Support

I went into this review planning on reviewing the Radio features of the software, but had a pleasant surprise to find that they have added podcast support. The Podcast support is very well done and has a good listing of podcast's to chose from. I found the podcast listing to be a much better feature in the software than the radio features. The listings were well done and easy to navigate while offering most of the common podcasts that fans look for. The radio list was not even close to as good as this list. They did offer a pretty good sized list, but it was not well formatted in my opinion and none of the one's I like did I find to be on the list (the best that I could tell). I have already reviewed the player software and it is supreme. For radio features however, it is lacking. All in all it is probably the best well rounded software on the market, I just looked for more with the great job they have done so far with their player software and now their podcasting. However, if you are looking for player software, it is a nice feature to have added.

I give the Player as a whole a rating of 4.5 stars out of 5 Download

1. Viigo (This is my favorite)

2. Facebook App

3. RDM+

vLingo 3.0

This is the BOMB!!! I had player with this program before in earlier versions, but wow what a difference they have made in this one. I played with it for an hour, sending texts to all my family and friends. I even updated my Facebook status. It was almost perfect in the messages that it picked up.

If you do not know what this program is, you need to download it today. It is a voice recognition program that allows you to do most blackberry function with your voice. Very nice while driving. This is what the blackberry needed and it should be the next bog thing.

I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Now this is a must have for the Blackberry. I am reviewing the free version and do not know how the radio is but the music player is stellar. It plays video files too! (Provided that they have converted correctly. ) For free, it is a steal but this one would be worth paying for any day.

Stitcher Radio

This is a different type of internet radio program. It is setup more specifically for a person who listens to talk radio. There are lots of preset stations, and they range vastly in topic matter. I like talk radio a lot so this one made the cut on my blackberry. Give it try if podcasts or talk is your thing.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars.

GPSed

This is another hit program from the group at Shape Services. At first glance I wondered what in the world this program did. But I used it this morning and it was awesome. The program uses the GPS to track a trip. You get the actual stats rather than a map estimate. The were many factors that determine a trip and the time it takes and this is the best way I have seen to keep tract of it. You can even send it to others or show someone where you are, through the software. This is a keeper. Try it and I bet you'll love it.

I give this 4.5 out of 5 stars.

This app uses your GPS to try to find the places you are looking for around you. It offers a yellow pages but also a white pages with reverse number look up. Find movies too! Really a nice app to have around if you are out and about much. Check this one out in this weeks top ten in the BB app store.

I give this one a 3.5 out of 5.

Dean Edge Pro Bass Guitar

This is my first review of a bass guitar. This is my bass of choice. I have played it for 4 to 5 years now and low the sound of this bass. The setup is great for Jazz it you can wail on it for solid rock riffs as well. WIthout a log of words to say on this. IT ROCKS sums it up and now back to the Blackberry reviews.

I give it a 6 out of 5 stars!!!!!!!

Opera Mini 4.2

There have been a lot of opinions stating that this is great. I must admit, for most browsers. The experience is a little friendlier. The interface is nice and Zooming in and out is nifty. I just feel like a browser with that much power would have more “big” features to offer. We still wait for flash player and the fact that it actually kicks out to the Blackberry browser for Youtube and some other things, just turned me off from using it as my main browser. Neat is just not enough for a hard core user.

I give this a 2.5 out of 5 stars.

Bubble Popper for Blackberry

\

This, to me, is the funnest game since Tetris was on the Gameboy in 1990. I love it and can’t put it down. Of course the price is right on it (being free). This is definitely one to check out for your serious playtime on your Blackberry. Get it at http://www.aimproductions.be/titleview.php?title=Bubble%20Popper

IM+

This is another killer application from the folks at Shape Services. (http://shapeservices.com) . It has about every feature you could want. Windows Live, Yahoo, AIM. It does them all and it does them well. It also does Facebook chat. That was super cool to me. I could look at the little picture icons of my friends and see if they were on line or not and chat with them without even open Facebook on my computer. The same thing applied to twitter. Skype, no problem for these guys!!

The bottom line is that I loved this application and plan to follow these guys for years to come.

I give this application a 5 out of 5 stars. Download

Tiny Twitter

This is a cute little application for those twitter fans who really like to follow. For a small application is fairly feature rich. It will let you send a message and receive them. You could also follow all of your twitter friends will ease. I thought the application was great for twitter. Of course it was specific for twitter and I am not a huge user, so it dropped a little for me. Still, it is a solid application with low overhead on your device so worth picking up. Plus the price is right. http://www.tinytwitter.com/

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Ringo

This is a nifty little application written by the same company as the Flipside Music player. It allows you to quickly and easily set ring tones on your Blackberry device. There are features that allow you to quickly set them for group or individual's if you are into separate ring tone's. Interesting application but nothing there that really offers life changing features.

I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars

City Search Application

This one is a real dog to me. It will give you places to eat or drink but really seems to have lost the point of what City Search is about. The interface is pretty simple but I would stay away from this one.

I rate it a 1 out 5

Flipside Music Player

I must say, I was pretty excited to write the review for this one. Having seen the software before, I knew it had the cool factor that one would look for in a music player, but would it hold up as a player capable of turning a blackberry into your next MP3 player. After mowing the lawn with a loaded card of mp3's and Flipside on shuffle, it definitely did for me.

It is fast, simple, yet robust enough to take on even the big guys. It is simply the best music player on the Blackberry. I would purchase this one immediately. It even creates play list on the device, so what more could you need.

I rate this one 5 out of 5 stars.

Jiveslide Beta

This software has very little use to me. It is a basic slide show for photo's you store online, It has a simple interface but it low on features. To me, this one was a waste of time. I give it 2 out of 5 star.

Faceboook 1.6 update for Blackberry

WOW. That is what comes to mind with this revision of the Facebook application. They have added so many features. First there is a view feeds feature, making it much more like the internet version. Then they have added picture support for added pictures and albums. The interface has change slightly for the revisions, but all for the better. I would say right out of the gate this is the revision they have been waiting for. There is still no chat ability, but short of that you will find this Blackberry application fills the Facebook itch whem you cannot get to a PC. I would give this version 4 out of 5 stars.

Slacker Radio 2.0 Free Version

ON the surface this is another internet radio program, but these guys have plyed it pretty smart when they came to clear music. Most players will buffer, drag, or break the song unless in a very strong signal area. Slacker handled this by adding a Cache feature that downloads the station to your memory card, then plays it back while buffering the upcoming music. Granted it does require a PC and a memory card but it is well worth it.

There is no lack of features either. They have album art, next playing and a set of great controls. They act like they created internet radio and until someone comes along to beat them, I would say they did!! I rate this a 5 out of 5 stars.

Weathereye for Blackberry

This product is a real winner. It shows an icon on the screen of what the weather currently is, then if you put the mouse over it, it will give you a short version of the weather. All that and you still have not entered the program. Most days that is enough for me to know the weather, but when needed other forecasting, I just enter the software and it gives me all the coices I need. Today's, Short term or Long Term forecasts. You can exit the software easily as well. This is perfect for someone who is really on the go.

If you want something quick and easy, use this software. If you want weather maps or more detailed informations, then use the web or something else. I would rather go quick and use this. I would rather it 4 out of 5 stars. Download

Facebook 1.5 Application for Blackberry

This application started as a week attempt to get Facebook onto the device, but they have really made it into a feature rich application. You can reply to people's comments on you status, send pictures,m or set you status strait from the software.

I find that I use the device to see the "general" items of the day, but at night I log into the computer and get caught up on my facebook. There is way too much stuff missing from the application to make it a real usable item. They are constantly making it better and now I use it constantly, but it is still missing some real important items.

Where is the news feed page that everyone uses on facebook? It is very difficult to see when others add photo's as well.

I give this application a 3 out of 5 stars but I am certain more fatures are coming. Keep looking for new stuff on this one.

Program Review Process

Send me a program for Blackberry 8310 and I will review it.

Viigo

To me, this is the best piece of software on my device. I have used it over a year now and they have reinvented it two to three times. The program is quick, solid, and easy to use for anyone.

Viigo is a newsgroup reader that offers a preset group of news feeds but will allow you to add you own. The offering they have though has filled every need I have had and there has been little need for me to add anything they did not already have in there.

They also have made special news feeds such as sports and weather that allow you to see specific information in an easy to use manor. Flight information and stock information as well. They are adding podcast and audio feeds as well in their alpha release of the next version.

The bottom line is that this product is solid as a rock and everyone should use it daily. I am an avid Blackberry user and I consider it my favorite program, including mail!

RDM+ for Blackberry

This has become the second best piece of software I have on my Blackberry. It allows me to remote desktop into my computer. They have done a great job of creating in a whya that someone with a small screen device can totally control their office to home PC. Of courcse it is not as fast as being at the PC, but when on the road or aw3ay from your PC, it allows you to do any task that you would normally do. You will have to learn the interface, but once you have it will be well worth your time to do it.

I have been using this software for two years now, and the real nice thing about this company is that they make major updates on a regular basis. The program is completely different than the one I used two years ago, yet it is extremely easy to use. RDM+ is a real winner for Blackberry!

EOffice Review for Blackberry

This is a review that is somewhat bitter sweet. The purchase of the items caused some corperate confusion which lead to a two week delay in receiving my software. The software was located on the Quickoffice.com site so but accident, they order the Quickoffice suite. Once realizing the mistake, we tried calling (which was impossible because there seemed to be no line with a real person). We did manage after many tries to get a credit and purchased the correct software.

The office suite is quite rich in feature, but I found it to be somewhat unfriendly. I still have not figured a way to hook it o my Google Mail account. The interface is complicated to say the least. The functionality however, is second to none. These guys have an awesome spreadsheet and word processor. eFile, whcih comes with the suite, give you a lot of the file functionality that RIM left off on the Blackberry. It is rich featured but keep the help PDF handy because the program is complicated to understand.

All in all, I would still say it is a good product, but surely someine out there makes a much easier office suite. Nice try guys but please work on the interface.
